Johnstown, PA

Took the Desk to Johnstown, PA to visit Congressman Murtha’s annual business conference. Was impressed with the blending of national and local support for small business. Met with a Veteran trying to help market cutting edge medical medication system called EMMA. Good stuff!

New Markets, Walter Reed, and the New Task Force

In the morning I took the Desk to DC again, looking for SBA support for New Market Tax Credits for Patriot Express Loans. The politicians appear willing to help change the law but the lobbyist like things the way they are right now. SBA agreed to help. We’ll see what happens.
In the Afternoon I [...]

To the Big Apple

Took the Help Desk to the Big Apple to meet with some creative types who claim they can build an internet tool which can improve financial services to Veteran small businesses. Will try to get them working with a friendly SBDC who will share the technology with other SBDCs and VOCs.

Help Desk goes to the Windy City

Met with a former fighter pilot who has plan to help PSTD Veterans. Very smart MBA type with passion and a smart MBA partner. Got to help these folks!

Marine in Laredo

Talked to a former Marine in Laredo, Texas (now a community development leader) who called to help me protect a SDVOB from getting plundered. His, leave no man behind attitude, helps build integrity into the community development process and builds trust and respect with his small business partners.

SDVOB with Diabetes

Talked to an SDVOB who has been helping manage diabetes problems for years. He wants to work with Indians Nations who have a disproportionate share of the disease population. He looking for Veteran Nurses, especially Indians, who want to work with that population.

Philadelphia, PA

Talked with a WWII Veteran who served in Italy. He’s getting up there, almost ninety, but still wants to build a new business selling specialty retail items to fraternal groups like Masonic Lodges, etc. Would love to partner with a young Veteran wishing to make the leap as retail entrepreneur.

Vet Force in Washington, DC

Took the Help Desk to DC to participate in an important Vet Force meeting about a new GSA program called the Twenty-One Gun Salute. People are starting to get their act together on organizing to get federal contracts for Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses. I was skeptical at first but there seems to be a [...]

Roanoke, Virginia

Took the Help Desk to see a lady who also helps diabetes patients right out of her house using a couple of video phones and a computer. She keeps her nursing skills up with the help of a friendly librarian at the Regional Veteran Hospital. She’d like to help hire and train a few Iraq/Afganistan [...]

West of Pittsburgh, PA

Met a lady who convinced me that she could passionately administrate a small business that would serve people with Diabetes, especially Veterans. Her Dad was a Vietnam CIB guy with a Purple, apparently pretty successful. He is a quiet one and runs his own thing but his daughter got some good genes so we’ll help [...]
